Running in place while staring at
the time ticking away, bored out of your mind, for at least 30 minutes to even
feel like you got anything out of it sucks right? Not today satan.
I've been playing around with
treadmill exercises because here in Nashville, it's currently freezing, so I
absolutely refuse to run outside. Try this next time you do some cardio and
thank me later.
-Keep
the incline at AT LEAST 5.0 for the entire duration of the workout.
I mean it, don't lower it, your butt
will thank you.
-Start
the first minute by finding your fast walk.
For me, its around 3.5. Let that be
your first pace.
-When
minute 2 starts keep moving the speed up until you reach a brisk run that is
comfortable enough that you can maintain it for a minute but too fast for you to run for long distance.
For me, that's about 7.5 (I have short legs).
-Repeat
this walk a minute-run a minute cycle for 20 minutes.
-Do not even try and stand on the
side of the treadmill for the minutes between sprints or I WILL FIND YOU. You
can do it, don't cheat yourself.
Results:
I ran on a treadmill nonstop for 20
minutes at a 2.0 incline at a 6.0 pace and burned 180 calories and felt like I
could still run for 20 more minutes. I did this sprint/incline workout and
burned 286 calories and felt like I was about to die and my glutes and legs
were as tired as they are after I do leg day.
A bonus to this would be that
running with an incline is keeping me from burning any muscle and toning my
legs all at the same time. The problem with treadmills is that they push off
the ground for us, so if you run without an incline its like you're burning
calories but doing absolutely nothing for your legs. My interval incline
workout will blast fat, tone your legs, and help you reach a higher calorie
burn in half the time!
